After a long period of disappointments, this method of breeding is well mastered with technique and equipment better adapted to the hard sea environment. |

The breeding is made on a floating structure at several miles of coasts. The ropes which are plaited and full of spat are dropped into the water, suspended from floats. All the installation is solidly anchored at the bottom by concrete blocks. As mussels are submerged all the time in seawater, they feed continuously. This is the reason why the development of rope mussels is faster than the bouchot mussels’. The ropes mussels are generally harvested in May and June. |

This technique is also used in April/May for the collecting of mussels larvae used for the bouchots farming. The spawn grows up very easily thanks to this method of farming. Two harvests of spawn are realised when they are between 25 to 30 mm, first in August/September and secondly in November/December. |
